How We Find a Leak
Finding a leak accurately is less about one piece of equipment and more about a disciplined, step-by-step process that rules things out before committing to a repair location.
Five Steps, Every Time
Meter and shutoff test
Before anything else, we check whether water is being used with every fixture off. If the meter is still moving with the house's main shut off, that confirms the leak is in the service line or under the slab, not in a fixture inside the home.
Exterior perimeter inspection
A technician walks the full outside of the property, checking every pipe stub-up, hose bib, irrigation line connection, and any visible plumbing point before ever stepping inside. A surprising number of leaks blamed on "something under the slab" turn out to be an irrigation line or an exterior connection.
Interior walkthrough
Room by room, kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, utility closets, checking for any visible or audible sign before relying on equipment alone.
Equipment-based confirmation
Acoustic listening equipment, ground microphones, and pressure testing narrow down a leak's location. We do not mark a repair spot based on a single reading. Cross-confirming with a second method before any cutting or digging is standard practice, not an extra step we charge more for.
Minimally Invasive, by Design
Once a leak location is confirmed, access for repair is planned to be as small and targeted as the situation allows, not a blanket excavation of an entire slab or yard. This process applies whether the job is a single-family home with a suspected slab leak or a larger commercial property with multiple meters and buildings.
Who We Are
Austin Leak Detection Expert operates as an independent local directory and referral service connecting Austin-area homeowners and businesses with experienced local leak detection providers. We do not publish unverified claims about years in business, licensing numbers, insurance, or review counts here, since none have been independently confirmed. We would rather tell you plainly what we know than make something up to sound more impressive.
